PASAJ began on Monday, 9 December 2024, with a reception celebrating Human Rights Day at Rumeli Passage. On Tuesday, 10 December 2024, general sessions, panel discussions, and workshops were held at The Marmara Taksim Hotel. That same day, we walked together along İstiklal Avenue to Çiçek Passage for lunch.
All of PASAJ’s events took place in Beyoğlu, one of Istanbul’s most vibrant districts, and this was no random choice. The neighbourhood, with its rich history of witnessing countless events, embracing diversity, hosting numerous struggles for rights, and its many passageways, naturally intertwined with PASAJ’s story.
Rumeli Han Passage
Since its opening in 1894, the Rumeli Han Passage in Beyoğlu has been an essential space for nurturing artisans and culture. We will meet there on 9 December for a reception to celebrate Human Rights Day. Rumeli Han is next door to the Aga Mosque on Istiklal Street.
Çiçek Passage
Çiçek Passage, also known as Cité de Péra, is a charming structure built in 1876 and is located just a few meters from Atlas and Rumeli Han Passage on Istiklal Street. We will gather there for lunch. For nearly 150 years, the Çiçek Passage has been the perfect backdrop for millions to enjoy culture, good food, and conversation. We hope the atmosphere will help foster meaningful conversation and networking on ways to enrich and strengthen rights-based work.
