Sivil Düşün PASAJ Forum: Towards A Renewal of the Global Human Rights Agenda
December 9-10, 2024 | Istanbul

Challenges to the international legal order, geopolitical conditions, climate change, income inequality, and technology have brought the international human rights system to an inflection point. Across the world, human rights advocates in civil society, politics, public service, law, business, arts, and science are calling for a renewal of the global human rights agenda. The Pasaj Forum gathered representatives of the human rights ecosystem in Türkiye to discuss these challenges and what they mean for the future of human rights work. Together, we explored the possibilities for renewal on the 76th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Sivil Düşün has been creating spaces for dialogue on a journey from past to future by organising forums that encourage the exchange of perspectives, ideas, and methods, fostering both debate and new collaborations for many years. On 10 December, Human Rights Day, we gathered at PASAJ to reflect on the echoes of the past, reassess them in today’s context, and chart a path forward for the future.

We kicked off with a Human Rights Day Celebration Reception, expressing our hope for rights to remain strong and impartial in the new world. Throughout the forum, we discussed how human rights can be strengthened in the face of today’s crises and challenges. To better adapt to changing circumstances together, we explored the needs, opportunities, challenges, and emerging horizons both in Turkey and across the globe.
